Recovery Cards Project

Challenge
Substance use disorder is a silent epidemic in the United States, one that’s shrouded in stigma that prevents people from seeking help or talking about it. We needed to find a way to offer support and take on stigma at the same time.

Solution
We wanted to create a physical way for people to show those battling substance use disorder support, so, we hired illustrators, artists, and local-artisan card companies to help us create an entire line of cards designed to get people talking, or should we say writing? Thirty-five cards were created and offered for free via a website and at recovery-themed events.

Results
The project was an immediate success. Cards literally flew off the shelves and the website. At launch, 6,600 cards were ordered online in the first 48 hours. That number eclipsed 10,000 cards in the first week alone. By week’s end, we were already in the throes of a second round of printing, and by the end of the month we had sent cards to all 50 states. Since, we’ve even added a card for Mother’s Day because hey, we love our moms.
