Whether it’s your first agency gig or your fifth, you can always fall back on a few account service agency basics:
Make Their Lives Easier
Regardless of who they are – the client or your colleagues – put in extra effort to make their lives easier. Provide everything they need upfront: this cuts down on back and forth emails, translating into a more productive and organized workplace.
Know Your Client’s Drink Order
This is an industry of building relationships. Dive beyond the surface and get to know your clients on a personal level. It makes the days more enjoyable and it helps to have a good foundation established in clutch situations.
Follow The F<%*ing Process
Process exists for a reason – because it works. An agency is a well-oiled machine and if one step gets missed, it means bumps down the road. Processes may be the most difficult thing to get acclimated to at a new place, but it is the most important to master. Learn it, live it, love it.
Volunteer As Tribute
Is the entire room solemnly gazing around after your boss asks, “who is willing to take this on?” Raise your hand…now! You may have landed the job, but now the wooing truly begins. Show that you’re willing to go above and beyond – like you said you would during your interview.
“I Don’t Know” Is Not An Answer
In your first months on the job, the answer to many questions will be, “I don’t know.” And that’s okay. However, the more important thing to note is that “I don’t know” should never be a definite answer. Say, “I don’t know, but let me find out,” or “I’m not sure, but let me ask someone who does know.” Never stop until you can resolve the problem presented.
Own Your Mistakes
You’re going to make mistakes – and you’re going to make a lot of them. The first step is to own up. Taking ownership of your mistakes will gain you respect. Correcting those mistakes will gain you trust. Don’t panic when mistakes happen, just take the appropriate steps to make it right.
No matter how long you’ve been in the industry, there’s always something to learn. Be the best asset to your team by asking questions, following industry trends, researching, finding a mentor and seeking out learning opportunities. Be hungry and push yourself.
You want it; now go work for it. With experience comes knowledge and confidence in your role – it gets easier as you go along.
